Multifunctional Full-Cycle Film Pavilion

The Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is the largest economy in the Russian Far East and one of the regional leaders in the development of the creative industries. The republic has cultivated a favorable environment for the growth of IT companies, filmmaking, game development, design, and related fields, which is reflected in the steady increase in the number of specialized companies. In several key indicators — including IT service export volume and the institutional development of creative clusters — Yakutia holds leading positions among the regions of the Far Eastern Federal District. The film industry occupies a particularly prominent place: today, Yakut films are represented not only on Russian streaming platforms but also on major international services such as Amazon Prime.

Films produced since 2011 — 100+

Awards at prestigious international and domestic film festivals — 250+

Share of Yakut cinema in the local box office — 34%

The multifunctional full-cycle film pavilion in Yakutsk will become the only complete film technology center east of the Urals. It will provide the industry with new, modern spaces for filming and events; sound recording, sound design, mixing, editing, color grading, and visual effects studios; office spaces; as well as costume, makeup, props, set construction facilities; rental of film equipment; and specialized vehicles.

At the heart of the multifunctional full-cycle film pavilion will be a modular 360° XR stage, enabling year-round recreation of required locations and interiors regardless of weather conditions — a factor that currently limits the development of the Far Eastern film industry.

The new facility will be located in the 68th district, on the open grounds of the former antenna field, adjacent to the Multimedia Historical Park building and the planned inter-university campus. Within this district — which, according to the city’s master plan, is set to become the new center of the modern city — the film pavilion will be one of the first implemented projects and will serve as a potential anchor for the future visual and spatial development of the surrounding area.

The building’s form is shaped by two key themes that reflect the visual and cultural DNA of Yakutia.
The first theme is the natural Arctic phenomenon of the Northern Lights, which defines the dynamics and luminous plasticity of the architecture.
The second theme is connected to the functional purpose of the complex and references film production — the rhythm of frame changes and the movement of film.

These ideas are expressed in the façade design through a smooth, “living” gradient created by the shape and detailing of the panels, as well as through a recurring graphic pattern along the walls. This solution ensures compositional clarity and enables a modular approach that creates a unified, expressive, and dynamic appearance both at close range and in the broader urban panorama.

Site area — 8.23 ha
Building footprint — 11,330.0 m²
Total building area — 26,441.30 m²

The film production facility consists of two main parts: the Pavilion Block and the Main Block.

The Main Block includes sections with heights of 6 and 12 stories. The building comprises:

  • actors’ facilities;

  • decorative and technical construction workshop;

  • small shooting stage;

  • cafeteria–restaurant;

  • exhibition area;

  • storage for filming props and costumes;

  • office and studio complex;

  • engineering and utility block.

The Pavilion Block has a height of 21.7 meters. It includes:

  • three large sound stages;

  • equipment and hardware storage;

  • film equipment workshop.

The project features a thoroughly developed functional layout, making the complex efficient in terms of circulation and interaction. Another key design decision was a broader vision for the development of the surrounding area, transforming the open site into a public space and improving the adjacent embankment of Lake Tyoploe.

The main highlight of the territory will be the so-called “set village.”
The area designated for outdoor film set construction will become an extension of the recreational zone and remain open to visitors. This concept, combined with the core functions of the complex, has the potential to create a new attraction in Yakutsk.

The creation of the new film pavilion will become a significant driver of regional economic development. The project will generate thousands of jobs not only within the film industry, but also across related sectors: construction, design, IT, media, services, and tourism. The complex will serve as a center of modern production infrastructure, capable of attracting major Russian and international projects as well as stimulating investment inflows.

The film pavilion will establish a full-cycle technological hub capable of producing up to 40 films per year, creating conditions that attract talented young professionals to the Arctic and the Russian Far East. The promotion of the region’s cultural heritage and natural locations will further contribute to increased tourism interest.

Thanks to its year-round production capabilities, a significant rise in film output is expected: from approximately 20 films produced by the Far Eastern regions in 2021 to an estimated 50 films by 2030.
