Teacher's Boulevard

Yakutsk, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)

Area: 1.17 hectares

One of the first landscaping projects in the republic is the Teacher's Boulevard in Yakutsk.

In 2016 there was an international workshop "Public Spaces in an Extreme Climate". Designs of new public spaces were developed there.  And one of the first landscaping projects in Yakutia is Teacher's Boulevard.

The authors faced the task of creating a comfortable courtyard and public space with new approaches in design, taking into account the conditions of the far North and permafrost.

It was opened on the Nationality Day of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in 2018 with the participation of all the leaders of Yakutia including two Presidents and two Mayors showing the high significance of this object. Teacher's Boulevard has become the starting point for the development of a comfortable urban environment in the region.

The territory is located in a residential neighborhood with access to the beautiful place - Teploye Lake. The concept of the project is the unique nature of Yakutia. The circles in the project are green hills with trees and flowers. New solutions in landscaping in permafrost conditions were given. And the courtyard area in turn set the tone to pay more attention to children's play areas. Sports grounds with simulators, benches for recreation became an absolute point of attraction. The project utilized environmentally friendly materials like wood and metal.

In the center of the public space there is the bronze monument to Mikhail Andreevich Alekseev, a national teacher, founder of the first school in Yakutia with advanced study of physics and mathematics. Behind the monument there is a small entrance group in the form of an arch with swings.

It is important to note that in the Far North, all communications run above ground, which spoils the look of any landscaped space. Therefore, the team decided to cover the heat route with a construction made of wood and metal. Environmentally friendly materials were used in the construction.
