Pedestrian bridge on the Matta River in Berdigestyakh village
Berdigestyakh, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)An old footbridge has long connected both banks of the Matta River. The original bridge was built in 1984. The wooden supports of the bridge became unreliable and began to deteriorate. As a result, a decision was made to replace the bridge with a metal structure. Actually, thanks to this decision, residents now have the opportunity not only to cross the river, but also to enjoy leisurely walks along the embankment.
Now the new bridge over the Matta River serves as the main link between the existing public spaces of the village - the "Eie" (‘Piece’) public garden, the historical quarter "Old Berdigestyakh" and the park of culture and recreation with a stadium. The design of the bridge is inspired by the Yakutian pattern "Ilim kharaga" (‘Eye of the net’), which means network. The project used the theme of the net, which symbolizes the connection between the water element and people.
The site is located in an unimproved part of Berdigestyakh village. The area is characterized by varied topography, including depressions, hills and steep river banks. During floods, a significant part of the territory is subject to flooding. However, this was not an obstacle to the creation of a remarkable facility, which is a pride and a place of attraction for residents and guests of the village.
